Dr. Puneet Kathuria completed his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, in the year 2002. He then obtained the MD (Psychiatry) postgraduate degree from Delhi University (2006 batch). After completing his medical studies and training in New Delhi, he moved to Ludhiana to start his private Psychiatry practice. Later, in 2008, he extended his services to rural Punjab, where he now also runs the Prem Neuropsychiatry Centre and a detoxification centre (Samanavaya Deaddiction Centre) for drug addiction patients in Malerkotla. Dr. Kathurias main interest areas in the field of Psychiatry are drug de-addiction, psychoses and C-L Psychiatry.
During his MD training at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), Dr. Puneet Kathuria gained experience in treating substance use patients at the Drug De-Addiction Treatment & Rehabilitation Clinic (DATRC) of IBHAS. He handled inpatients as well as the OPD, and regularly attended the meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous held at IHBAS. He also gained six months’ experience of treating substance use patients at the outreach clinic at Jama Masjid, run by an NGO in collaboration with IHBAS.
Dr. Kathuria has also been involved in community psychiatry. He worked for a year in the community outreach clinic under the District Mental Health Programme, New Delhi, at Chattarpur village and BJRM Hospital, Delhi, and attended three outreach camps in the urban slums of Delhi. Dr. Kathuria has attended numerous conferences and CMEs to keep himself updated with recent developments in his field. He has been actively involved in the Punjab and Chandigarh state branches of the Indian Psychiatric Society and the Indian Association of Private Psychiatry, having held the posts of Secretary and President at various junctures.
